Protecting Water and Shorelines

Date:
Protecting Water and Shorelines

Healthy shorelines, wetlands, groundwater and drainage systems protect property, drinking water and the lakes themselves. The proposed OCP would strengthen policies for natural shoreline areas, riparian vegetation, wetlands, recharge areas and source-water protection. It would generally favour avoiding sensitive areas before relying on mitigation after a development is designed. Development proposals may require supporting information about drainage, wastewater, erosion or environmental conditions. These policies would guide decisions while the Zoning Bylaw and permit process would establish the specific requirements.
